Austin Adventures

Hmmm... so I've never written a blog before. This post is just a general update on commencing a new life in Austin.

Law school classes start on Wednesday, so I arrived today from Dallas to give myself some time to get ready. I'm living in an old apartment complex called Act IV... it was built sometime in the late 70s and has a nice reddish color. It's also close to the law school (about half a mile) which means I can walk to class. And I got a nine month lease - all in all a good deal.

Today I had a pre orientation barbecue with my "mentor group". It seems they've divided the entering class of about 400 into eight societies of about 50, each of which is subdivided into two groups of about 25. My society is the Carlos Cadena society (we are the best. better than everyone else.)

The barbecue was nice, although it was misleadingly named since there was no grilling. Our society mentor/student advisor just bought a lot of barbecueish food and we all met at Pease park near a frisbee golf hole and a park bench.

Mostly we talked about where we were from, what we had done last summer/year/after college, how crazy our mentor's little chihuahua looked in a UT shirt, and how terrible it is that we all have a morning civ pro (civil procedure) class five days a week. It's a friendly and interesting group.

Orientation starts tomorrow at 8:45 in the morning, so I should sign off. Austin is still very hot. More to come later.
